Flux Kontext Pro: Everything You Need to Know

Flux Kontext Pro is part of Black Forest Labs' FLUX.1 Kontext family for editing an image from a written instruction. This guide explains what the Pro tier was designed for, how it differs from the standard editing path used by KontextChat today, and what an edit actually costs here.

Current product note: KontextChat does not currently offer a Flux Kontext Pro or Max model selector. The editor uses @cf/black-forest-labs/flux-2-klein-4b through Cloudflare Workers AI. Pricing below covers the credits used by this site, not Black Forest Labs API pricing.

What Is Flux Kontext Pro

Flux Kontext Pro is a hosted model in Black Forest Labs' FLUX.1 Kontext line. Like the rest of that family, it takes a source image and a natural-language instruction. Your prompt says which part should change; the picture supplies the subject, lighting, and composition.

That workflow is useful when an edit is easy to describe but tedious to draw by hand. Changing a jacket from blue to green, replacing a plain product backdrop, removing a small object, or asking for a different time of day can all start with one sentence.

Pro was positioned between the open developer model and the premium Max tier. A developer or platform might choose it when broad model support, predictable endpoint behavior, and responsive generation are more important than the highest possible visual fidelity.

That distinction matters on KontextChat. The site name and guides discuss the Kontext model family because that is the product category; the editing request itself goes to FLUX.2 Klein. Do not read this page as a promise that a specific Pro API endpoint is running behind it.

The practical way to evaluate any text-guided editor is to test a change you can inspect: the colour of one object, one background, or one piece of clothing. Check that requested area, then check the face, hands, text, and edges that should remain stable. The AI Transparency Notice lists the models this site actually calls.

Flux Kontext Pro vs Standard Flux Kontext

The table separates the legacy Pro tier from the editing model used here. They are not interchangeable names for one setting.

How Fast Is Flux Kontext Pro

Black Forest Labs describes Pro as the faster production tier in the FLUX.1 Kontext line, with a generation time around 5–6 seconds in its model guidance. The site's earlier copy used a broader 5–10 second window for Pro and 15–30 seconds for Max. Those figures are a former expectation, not a service-level promise.

A real request can take longer. Image size, prompt complexity, model queue, provider location, network conditions, and safety checks all affect the wait. Measure end-to-end time when latency matters.

KontextChat does not show a fixed completion time because the active model and provider load can change. The editor shows a pending state and returns the result when processing ends. Start with one modest image and one specific change.

Speed must be weighed against cost. Know the price per request and how many attempts a task needs before choosing a faster endpoint.

How to Use Flux Kontext Pro on KontextChat

These steps describe this site's browser workflow. A Pro model choice is not exposed here; the pattern is the same.

  1. 1. Upload an image

Choose a JPG, PNG, or WebP file up to 10MB. Check the preview before continuing.

  2. 2. Write the instruction

Name the element and the result you want. Start with one edit, then refine in a follow-up.

  3. 3. Review and download

Compare the result with the source, check what should have stayed intact, then download it.

Flux Kontext Pro Pricing

Pricing here is for KontextChat credits, not a per-image quote from the original Pro API. After the free daily pool, an edit costs 10 credits and a generation costs 1. One balance covers both actions.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Flux Kontext Pro free?

KontextChat includes a free daily editing pool, subject to availability. After that, edits cost 10 credits and generations cost 1 credit. Checkout displays the final amount. This is not unlimited access to the separate FLUX.1 Kontext Pro API.

What is the difference between Pro and Max?

In the FLUX.1 Kontext family, Pro was the faster production tier and Max the premium-quality tier with stronger typography and prompt adherence. Black Forest Labs now recommends newer FLUX.2 models for new editing projects. KontextChat exposes neither selector; its edits use FLUX.2 Klein.

Can I use Flux Kontext Pro images commercially?

For images made on KontextChat, the Terms permit lawful personal and commercial use, subject to your rights in the input image, third-party rights, applicable law, and the Acceptable Use Policy. You must have permission to upload the image. A provider you call directly may impose additional terms.

Does KontextChat let me choose Flux Kontext Pro or Max?

No. The current interface has one editing route and no Pro/Max switch. The AI Transparency Notice lists FLUX.2 Klein as the primary editor and Stable Diffusion as the fallback.

How fast is Flux Kontext Pro?

A commonly cited window is 5–10 seconds; earlier site copy used the same range. It is not a guarantee. Latency depends on provider, image size, prompt, queue, and network. The current editor does not promise a fixed completion time.

Can I use Flux Kontext with ComfyUI?

Yes, FLUX.1 Kontext developer weights can be used in local ComfyUI workflows. KontextChat is a browser tool, so you do not need ComfyUI here.

Is KontextChat operated by Black Forest Labs?

No. KontextChat is an independent third-party tool. Its underlying image models are provided by Black Forest Labs, but KontextChat is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Black Forest Labs.
